Louisa Christening Gown
Delightful cotton and lace Christening gown dating from 1860. Replicating the dramatic Victorian style of the day, this gown is perfect in every way. The lace is wonderful and extremely delicate.
The front panel is decorated with vertical rows of lace, feather stitch and pintucks. Large robings decorate the edges of the front panel and extend over the shoulders, across the back of the neck to the back edge. A hemline comprising scalloped embroidered lace finishes the design perfectly. The sleeves are small and wide and created from the same embroidered lace.
The skirt is very long and very full and joins the bodice at the waistline in tiny tiny pleats. The waistline is also decorated with hand embroidered feather stitching. Please be mindful that as the lace is so fine, there are slight signs of wear in some places. This does not detract from the gown in any way.
This is a premier gown, in excellent condition and is sure to become an heirloom for future generations.
