The Lincoln Cathedral Silk Gown
The Lincoln Cathedral Gown in silk is a luxurious version of the original Lincoln Cathedral Christening Gown.
As with the original gown, The silk gown has been styled to honour St Hugh, a former Bishop of Lincoln, who was instrumental in designing the wonderful roof vaults to be found in the cathedrals St Hugh's Choir. Wherever St Hugh went, he was followed by a swan, which became his closest friend. He took inspiration from this friend as some say the lines of the roof vaults mirror the bird as it stretched its half-folded wings in preparation of flight.
The gown’s skirt takes inspiration from this story. The body of the swan is the silk undergown and the fine silk organza overgown is the wings. Silk robings join the two skirts together.
The embroidery and beadwork on the front of the bodice together with the large rose on the centre of the skirt are taken from some of the Cathedral’s marvellous stonework. Short, puff sleeves in silk and organza compliment the design. The end result is a stunning gown, with a delicate aura of grace and beauty, so reflecting of the qualities of St Hughs’s swan.
Complimentary personalised bibs and godmother handkerchiefs are also available.
