Delightful cotton and lace Christening gown dating from 1890. The yoke is beautifully decorated, both front and back, with cutwork lace and braid bands. A high, round neck has a delicate lace trim. Slightly puffed sleeves are gathered into a double layer of the same lace. Wide, flared skirt incorporates three bands of pin tucked cotton alternating with braid and cutwork lace with a wide flounce of two layers of broderie anglais lace round the bottom. A few tiny pinholes and an expert darn do not detract from the gown as they are easily lost in the folds. Back fastening comprises two cotton buttons.
