Simple white Christening gown dating from 1890 and made from a lovely cotton material with delicate vertical stripes running throughout. The deep bodice is decorated with bands of embroiderie anglais. Lace cotton trim adorns the high neckline and edges of the small, slightly puffed sleeves. The full skirt is plain to highlight the stripe effect and the hem has cotton lace trim. The skirt has been beautifully gathered and hand-stitched (gauged) to the bodice, demonstrating the excellent craftsmanship of the Victorian era.
